Subject Pronouns - I, you, he, she, it

Subject pronouns are words that replace the subject (the person or thing doing the action) in a sentence. We use them to avoid repeating names and to make our sentences shorter and clearer.

There are seven subject pronouns in English. Each one matches a different subject.

Subject Subject Pronoun Example
The speaker I I am a teacher.
The person you are talking to You You are my friend.
A man/boy He He is my brother.
A woman/girl She She is a doctor.
A thing or an animal It It is a cat.
The speaker and someone else We We are students.
More than one person or thing They They are happy.

Quick Tips:

  • I is always capitalized.
  • It is used for animals (if gender is not important), objects, and ideas.
  • You can be both singular and plural.
  • Use subject pronouns before a verb (e.g., She likes apples.)
