Present Simple Form

The Present Simple tense is used to talk about things that happen regularly, facts, or routines.

Example: She goes to school every day.

Subject Verb Example
I / You / We / They base form They work in a bank.
He / She / It base form + -s or -es She studies English.

When Do We Use the Present Simple?

  • Daily routines or habitsI brush my teeth in the morning.
  • FactsWater boils at 100°C.
  • Things that are always trueThe sun rises in the east.
  • Schedules or timetablesThe train leaves at 6 p.m.

Spelling Rules for 3rd Person Singular

  • Add -s: He reads books.
  • Ends in -ch, -sh, -x, -s, -o → Add -es: She watches TV.
  • Ends in consonant + y → change y to -ies: He studies hard.

Negative Sentences in Present Simple

Use do not (don’t) or does not (doesn’t) + base verb.

  • I don’t like coffee.
  • She doesn’t play football.

Questions in Present Simple

Use Do/Does + subject + base verb?

  • Do you play the guitar?
  • Does he like pizza?
